When can I start my course?

 

You can start your course any Monday throughout the year except on Bank / Public Holidays.

How big are the classes?

 

There are 15 students maximum in each class but the average is 11 students per class.

Do I need to pass a test in order to enter your school?

 

All new students complete a written placement test as well as a short speaking test. There is no pass or fail. The test is only a means of checking your level of English so that we can place you in the right class.

Do you have some activities after class?

 

ISI offers a full social programme from June to September with afternoon excursions to places of interest in Dublin city. All of these activities are FREE except on Wednesdays.

 


We also offer year-round activities which are free of charge to students:
•    ISI CineClub every Thursday @ 13.30 in the Movie Room (Room 3.2)
•    Tanya’s Book Club: every Tuesday from 16.30 -17.30
•    International Food Fairs held 4 times a year
•    Monthly student parties in a local pub

How can I find information about Cambridge exams?

 

The first person to talk to if you are interested in taking a Cambridge exam would be your teacher.  He/she will be able to refer you to some material to read and dive you some advice too. If you still have a few more questions, you can always make an appointment with Directer of Studies who will be able to give you some more information about the exams and even enrol you in the exam. What qualifications do your teachers have?

 

All the teachers in ISI are fully qualified. They all have a degree and an ACELS recognized TEFL certificate. Some teachers have also undertaken Masters’ degrees in Applied Linguistics and related fields.

How do I know my level?

 

You can do our new online English test to find out your level of English.


Can I get a certificate at the end of my course?

 

You are entitled get a certificate at the end of your course provided that you have an attendance rate of 85% upon completing your course. The certificate will state the kind of course that you did, the duration of your course, your overall level and your level for your spoken interaction and communicative ability, reading, listening and writing skills.

   

Can I use my laptop computer in the school?

 

Yes. There is free WiFi Access throughout the ISI building
   

Can I use Skype in your school to call my family?

 

Yes. Skype is installed on selected computers in the ISI computer room
   

Do you always have to speak English in the school building?

 

We encourage students to speak English at all times. The classroom is a 100% English zone.


Can I change accommodation types during my course?

 

We will try our best to help you if you want to change accommodation type (subject to availability)
   

Can I choose host families?

 

There are a number of questions on your application form that will help ISI to choose the best host family for you.

I am a vegetarian. Can I request vegetarian meal to the host family?

 

Yes you can.


What do I have to do if I need to change the time of my class?

 

If you need to change the time of your class, the most efficient way of doing this is through the “Student Zone ” on the web page.  All changes become effective on Mondays. Please allow 2-3 days for requests to be granted. In emergencies, always contact Directer of Studies directly, either by telephone (01 8727888) or in person.

Who do I need to talk to if I want to change my level?

 

If you feel that your level is too low or to high for the class you are in, the best person to talk to is your teacher. He/she will know all about your level and your progress and he/she will b able to tell you if you are ready for the next level. If you are, he/she will recommend your name in the weekly academic meeting. The change will be processed for the following Monday.
Students who are on study leave or holidays should retake the online placement test (www.studyinireland.ie/onlinetest.php ) before returning to school for their next semester.

What do I need to do if I need to change my holidays?

 

If you need to change the dates of your holidays, you will need to make an appointment with Director of Studies or request through the “Student Zone” on the web page. Please remember to check your holiday dates and request a change of dates at least a week before your holidays are due to start.

How can I request a holiday, attendance or reference letter?

 

If you need any of these letters, you can write your request in the red book at reception or alternatively, you can do this through the “Student Zone” on the website. As soon as your letter is ready for collection, your name will be posted on the notice board in the canteen.   

   

When is full payment due?

 

Full payment is due two weeks before the start of your course.
