Some last minute advice for FCE / CAE candidates

Hi there

For all of you are about to take the First Certificate in English (FCE) or the Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - good luck! Pamela and Sarah’s students have been working very hard over the past few months and we’re sure they’re going to do great!

Just in case you are looking for more exam practice before the big day, Pearson Longman have devised a great new website to help you prepare for the Cambridge English exams: www.itests.com

Some tips and advice for the examination itself:

Before the exam:

  • Arrive on time to register for each part of the examination
  • Don’t forget to bring photo ID (e.g. a passport, driving licence, national identity card etc) and your Statement of Entry!
  • Bring a pen, pencil and eraser with you.

During the exam:

  • Do not take notes, books, dictionaries into the examination hall.
  • You must not use correction fluid (e.g. Tippex)
  • You may bring still, bottled water with you but it must be in a transparent plastic bottle.

Remember:

  • to listen carefully to the supervisor and follow instructions
  • to read the instructions on your question paper carefully
  • to allow yourself enough time to transfer your answers from the question sheet onto the answer sheet (Reading/Use of English/Listening Papers)
  • to inform the invigilator immediately if you think you have been given the wrong question paper
  • to ask the invigilator for help by raising your hand if you are unsure what to do (but you may not ask for an explanation of questions!)
  • to inform the invigilator if you are feeling unwell, before the exam if possible.

Good luck - we’ll be thinking of you all!

Lorraine :-)
